On the Oracle public tool pages (both Windows and Unix); -- see, for
example, http://docs.oracle.com/javase/8/docs/technotes/tools/unix/jjs.html
-- there is a --classpath option listed for setting the script
classpath. (I think; I'm about to test it.)

The option is actually -classpath, not --classpath.

If this is not the right place to note that, let me know where I should.

There is a nashorn-dev at openjdk.java.net, but https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8041730 has been filed on your behalf.
